Cudjoe Head native Silvina "Kandie" Malone entered the
arena in 1999 and posted a respectable sixth-place finish in the
Montserrat Calypso Monarch finals. She then snared the title
the following year with "Rock Down De Place" and "Vote for DFID".
That victory marked the first time a female artist captured the
calypso crown in Montserrat. Proving her win was no fluke, she
reclaimed the crown in 2003 with "Change De Board" and "Everything
is not OK". For her performance of "Change De Board", she donned
a man's business suit and goatee for a gender-bender
rendition that initially had the audience fooled. A fire officer
when she's not performing, the easy-going mother of four rallied with a vengeance in 2006, nabbing the Female Calypso Monarch title and the Calypso Monarch title with the songs "My Vision" and "Front Line."
